Huskies are not your average dog. They have very unique traits which are not common to many other breeds of dogs. Some husky owners describe their husky’s behavior as “cat-like”. Huskies don’t always come when you call them. They have “selective hearing” when it comes to responding to your call. If there is something out in the garden that is more exciting than what you have to offer, then you can call until you run out of breathe, your husky is not going to humor you.

If however, you are offering an exciting adventure in the form of a walk to the park or a drive in the car, then your husky will be by your side turning circles in a minute!

Huskies need and love to exercise. Enough exercise keeps them content and out of mischief. They will be less inclined to dig and chew and howl if they are properly exercised. So if you are a couch potato, then a husky is not for you! But many older huskies prefer to be on the couch with their humans instead.

If you like magic, then you are in for a treat with your husky! Harry Houdini has nothing on this breed. If there is a way out of the property, this dog will find it! Huskies don’t come back either. It isn’t that they don’t love you or their home; it is just simply in their blood. It’s a case of “have husky blood…will travel”. So taking a husky into your home and into your family is a commitment. Your property will need to be VERY SECURE (6 foot walling and separate front and back gardens).

Huskies howl. A lot!
They don’t bark, generally speaking. Personalities develop like human beings’ personalities do, based on their environment and the people and other dogs they are exposed to. Some do learn to bark from other breeds of dogs around them, others are vocal in other ways. Soulful howling is usually a sign of loneliness.

Huskies don’t do well on their own. They require companionship.
Huskies are pack animals and generally get on with all breeds of dogs. Due to their strong hunting instincts, huskies are generally not recommended for homes with cats or very small animals. Huskies are not fighting dogs. They are friendly by nature and are great with children.

If you decide that you can handle the quirkiness of this breed, then you are in for a treat because more fulfilling a relationship you will not find. This breed not only entrenches itself into your family and home but into your life
