At Husky Rescue we’re all about the animals. In order to complete our mission of rescuing pets, nursing them back to health, and adopting them into their new forever homes, we need all the help we can get from our amazing volunteers. Without the work of our volunteers, none of this would be possible.

Fostering

If you have a husky-suitable home but possibly not the funds to look after a husky, you may be able to help through offering one of our beautiful dogs a foster home. Husky Rescue will supply you with food, tick and flea repellent and medical care (should it be required) for your foster dog. This could be done on a permanent basis or you can put yourself down for emergency situations where a dog comes in and cannot for whatever reason go into the Haven. The dog will then stay in your care until another home is found for this dog.

Sponsorship

Money makes the world go around and it’s no different for Husky Rescue South Africa. We cannot provide for the dogs and ensure that they’re well taken care of without the donations from our our loyal sponsors.

People like to sponsor Husky Rescue in different ways. Here are some of the options:

  • Support a fund-raising event such as the Barking Army 94.7 Cycle Challenge, the Golf Day or the Sleepathon.
  • Set up a debit order for a certain amount of money per month. Click here for banking details.
  • Sponsor a particular dog for a month. Here’s how: Sponsor a Siberian
  • Look out for a particular cause that moves you, e.g. Apollo & Zeus Eye Operation

Volunteer

Looking for a little food for the soul? Spend a bit of time at Husky Haven. This isn’t a normal shelter. Dogs live in large, beautifully kept enclosures or runs where they have ample access to water and shade and enough space to move around in.

There are a lot of dogs to care for and keep stimulated though and a visit from another human can be very rewarding and good for the dogs. Take a brush with and groom a dog, spend some time teaching a dog to sit for treats, take some pics of the dogs and post them onto your social media platforms – who knows maybe one of your friends spots one of these beauties and it results in love at first sight and a forever home for that dog…

There’s always a bit of maintenance that needs to be done to the wendy-houses that the dogs sleep in or the pathways or gum-poles that support the fences of the enclosures. If you’re good with your hands, the Haven could definitely use them.

Sponsor a Siberian

Has one of the haven dogs snuck into your heart? Do you feel like you want to make a difference in that particular dog’s life and you’re not in the position to take him or her home? You can become that particular dog’s sponsor for the month.

Sponsor a Siberian for R390 a month. Use the dog’s name followed by the word “Sponsor” and deposit the money into Husky Rescue’s bank account.

Remember that Husky Rescue is a registered non-profit organization so all Section 21 benefits apply regarding your sponsorship.

Fundraise for Husky Rescue SA

Fundraising is one of the critical ways in which we are able to continue to grow as an animal welfare organisation on a continual basis. It is also an opportunity to get to know you – our supporter – and work with you to keep changing animals’ lives.

Since as much of our gathered funds go towards the animals who need our help, we not only know just how important it is to keep bringing in funds, but we also love to hear about the fundraising efforts of our Husky Rescue SA supporters.

There are many ways you could make a difference for animals at your next event, birthday party, anniversary, school sports event or office function. Getting creative is all up to you!

Leave a Bequest

Your lifelong love of huskies and your legacy is far greater than its monetary value. Throughout your life, you prepare for the safety of your beloved pets and, if your actions can preserve an organization that can assist your husky if necessary, this can be a great comfort. Leave your mark with a legacy that will continue to support a future in which Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes can be cared for until they find forever, loving homes .

Should this resonate with you please consider a bequest for Husky Rescue SA, ensuring that our haven may continue and be felt for generations to come.

Siberian Huskies

Siberian Huskies have captured the imagination of the masses, as well as artists, writers, and film producers, with their eye-catching looks and awe-inspiring talents. This medium-size working dog possesses power and athleticism. First developed as sled dogs — some are still used in this capacity — Huskies are remarkable dogs — and their ability to learn is staggering.

Many have fallen in love with the wild nature and pride of Huskies, but are unaware just what this breed is truly like. This is not a breed for everyone. Their beauty often drives people to purchase them, unaware of their difficult traits, which makes many Siberian Huskies prime candidates for shelters.
