Husky Rescue South Africa (HRSA) hosted its very first Sleepathon on the 28th of November 2015 where 15 husky enclosures (or runs) were rented out to corporates and individual husky enthusiasts. The event raised in excess of R58 000 for the organization.
The objectives of the event were as follows:
- to raise funds for the organization
- generate awareness around the work that the organization does
- to “market” some of the beautiful dogs that call the Haven home in an effort to try and find some of them their forever homes
- to give both humans and shelter dogs the opportunity to spend the night together
We reached and exceeded these objectives with the help of our incredibly generous sponsors, the local media and our avid Husky Rescue supporters who we can always count on.
Every single enclosure was rented out and a human companion spent the night with the dog(s) that live there. The local media covered the story leading up to the event as well as reporting back on the actual event. Pictures of the dogs were used in these stories making our dogs celebrities! The social media campaign that surrounded the event “marketed” the dogs that are at the Haven waiting for their forever homes increasing awareness about the Haven and queries about the dogs and potential homes for them.
All proceeds for this event go towards the rehabilitation and rehoming of the dogs and at the festive time of year shelters like Husky Rescue battle with an influx of dogs and homings as many people are away so it really does come at a good time.
Thank you to all who participated in this event – we couldn’t have done it without you!
